PODENGOS AT KC EVENTS
DISCOVER DOGS - CRUFTS 2005

Today, after four long days at Crufts, The Portuguese Podengo Club of
Great Britain was awarded 3rd Prize for the Best Booth at Discover
Dogs section at Crufts, from 205 Entries, which is a incredible
result for the Podengo in the U.K.
The competition is judged over the four days, by an anonomous
judge, who is continually observing throughout the four days, and who
takes into consideration the decoration of the booth, full
information on the breed provided, the leaflets the club hands out,
and of course the quality and the number of dogs available. This has
been a wonderful achievement as it is only the Club's second
appearance at Crufts Discover Dogs.
The Podengos appearing in the Booth have been incredible ambassadors
for the breed, some of who appeared all four days. They captured many
hearts and many more enthusiasts.
Very popular with the children there

An exhausting day!

Discover Dogs November 2004
For the second time since the Podengo was recognised by The Kennel Club, Podengos appeared at Discover Dogs at Earls Court in London on the 13th & 14th of November 2004.
It was a busy two days, with even more visitors than 2003. Podengos are certainly beginning to get known, with many visitors telling us that they came especially to Discover Dogs to see and meet the Podengo Breed. The Podengos on show gave everyone a real insight to their super temperaments and charming characters.
Over 1,000 leaflets were taken over the two days, which is 200 more than last year.
We had several Portuguese visitors to the stand, who now live in the U.K. who were delighted to see 'their own breed present', and told us that they plan to get a Podengo when they have the facilities and time to devote to a dog.
It was a very good Two Days for the Podengo Breed.

Portuguese Podengo's present at Crufts 2004
The event took place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, Great Britain, 4 to 7 March, the 115th Crufts Show 2004, considered the Greatest Dog Show in the World.
There were more than 24000 dogs present from 200 breeds with 130.000 visitors
This was the second time the Portuguese Podengo had been on Public Display in the United Kingdom, but the first time on the Crufts Discover Dogs section.
In 2003 the Portuguese Podengo were also present at the Discover Dogs event on November 22 and 23, also with great success.
At Crufts dog show (where the Podengos have been invited to attend again) there is a Discover Dogs area where each breed is allocated a breed booth to educate and advise potential dog owners about any particular breed. Our Breed Booth was decorated with pictures and information on the Portuguese Podengo. At Crufts the Breed Stands were there for four days.
The Podengo Booth at Discover Dogs was packed by interested people all day long. Several people coming back time after time, having fallen in love with the breed. Over 1,600 Leaflets giving information on the breed were taken from the booth.
The Podengos took to show the breed off, were very good ambassadors of the breed, and behaving so well. They were from the main breeder in UK, Ms. Betty Judge, who is responsible for introducing the breed into this country.
We are hoping to get Kennel Club approval of the breed standard in the near future. Then hopefully the breed will spread throughout the country and will be able to compete in official shows.
