In 2006 the Club started an ongoing Health Survey for the Portuguese
Podengo breed. The reason we carry this out is to determine if any genetic health problems are affecting the Podengo. If
any specific health issues start to emerge, we can quickly identify the pattern and hopefully correct it with the
help of the Kennel Club’s Scientific Committee.
The Kennel Club also requires Registered Clubs to report back to them annually
regarding the Health of the Breed, so without this Survey we would not be able to do so. It is important to send the forms
back even if your dog is healthy, because this gives us the overall picture of the breeds health status.
The Survey is confidential,
and is collected on a no blame no shame policy, to assist any breeder who may have bred a Podengo with certain health issues.
Being a relatively new breed to the UK it is early days and there is a possibility that there may be health
issues. We all care about our beloved Podengos and this way by returning the Survey, we can hopefully safeguard them in the
future from any health problems which may appear.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Would all Podengo owners please note that the Portuguese Podengo Club of Great Britain is the
ONLY Club in the UK approved and registered with The Kennel Club to represent the Breed and also has the only Kennel
Club authorised Breed Health Co-ordinator.
It is vital that all Breed Heath data is held in one central
place so that a full and accurate picture of all aspects of the Breed can be built up over time. It is therefore essential
that you download and complete the Health Survey each year and supply the requested information direct to the approved Health
Co-ordinator as indicated on the form.
Please note that if you have already supplied information to any other
organisation purporting to run a health survey, to date this has not been passed on and therefore may not be included
in the overall picture of the Breed.
